Gilly McCadden
From a background in fine art, with a degree in sculpture from Brighton Art College, Gilly McCadden quickly moved into the area of screen printing, where she spent sixteen years working as a colourist and separator for a London art publishing house. Throughout this time she continued to work on her own drawings and prints.
Later, combining her love of horticulture and art, Gilly also pursued a successful career as a garden designer. The marriage of two professions is evident in her current work, which demonstrates a deep understanding of plant structures, the power of colour and screen printing technique.
“I’m interested in paring images down to their essence and I’m inspired by the simple beauty of plants. I aim to achieve a point of purity both in form and colour. Screen printing is the perfect medium for my work as it allows me to deconstruct an image and rebuild it in as many or as few layers as I choose”.
Her work is elegant, timeless and particularly well tuned to the contemporary interior.
Gilly McCadden lives and works in West Sussex.
