Roger Holtom
Working as an artist since 1991, Roger Holtom has developed a highly personal abstract style using a wide range of oils, acrylics and varnishes creating heavily textured works on canvas and wood.
Originally educated as a musician, Roger's work has been greatly influenced by his experience as a professional cellist.
"Applying paint to a canvas inevitably reflects something of our basic nature, shaped by the way we use our bodies and our sense of rhythm and nuance.
The aesthetic choices we make define the compositional and tonal qualities of a painting - subtle textures providing the all important detail just as in a musical performance.
In any artistic endeavour the ultimate challenge must surely be to evoke a sense of something universal.
Though this may be hard to define, when present it is recognisable as an expression of our shared human experience and is, therefore, in the broadest sense, beautiful."
